A group of inventors from the city of Samara are working on the new flying vehicle, which is called "diricopter". The vehicle is a combination of a dirigible (airship), multicopter and an airplane. It is capable of moving in all directions and has the options of vertical takeoff and landing.
According to senior developer of the project, Mr Sergey Averianov, dericopter can be used for patrolling large territories, in the work of photo and video control engineers, as well as for surveillance over animals. The device can be used by oil companies for pipeline monitoring and by the military industry for solution of military problems. The expected flying range is 50-100 km, fuel range is 300 km. Design of the first sample and trial flights are planned for 2015.
According to Mr Nikita Zakharov, Deputy General Director of ZALA AERO GROUP, similar ideas have long been developed by the US engineers. They have achieved certain progress, there are some prototypes. In Mr Zakharov’s expert opinion the idea is good, but it requires funding and experience in remote-piloted vehicle and aerostatic balloon operation.
