10 rescue centers will begin their operation in the Arctic region until the end of 2016. The Russian Emergencies Ministry will supervise their construction.
As of today, three out of ten centers are ready for operations, and another center located in Vytegra village, Vologda region, has already began to execute its functions.
According to Vladimir Puchkov, head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the entire Arctic territory stays under the protection of Arctic aviation rescue services and mobile rescue units. Fire and rescue units ensure the safety of settlements located above the Arctic Circle.
The ministry plans to consult Russian Geographical Society in order to further improve security in the Arctic region. During this year, the agencies conducted a series of joint expeditions in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Lake Onega and in Vytegra. There are plans for continuing this practice in the coming year.
