Rostelecom Will Introduce an Alternative to Skype

Rostelecom is conducting a tender for determining contractors able to develop and implement a service similar to Skype, while having a broader range of functions. The corresponding announcement is posted on the official web-portal of state procurements. 

It is expected that the new service will provide landline communications subscribers with the ability to make and receive calls using software running on PC or iOS and Android devices. 

The service will support small messages exchange and file transferring - including video. The service must provide connection for subscribers of landline and mobile communications services and Internet users.

According to the company’s representative, the product will be related to VoIP solutions. However, the list of functions will be longer since a service provider is able to offer additional functionality, which is unavailable to companies offering OTT products. The new service will meet domestic legislation requirements. All subscribers of Rostelecom will receive an actual phone number – something that is not supported by Skype. 

Initial maximum contract cost currently amounts to 72 853 million rubles. Winner will be determined on November 6.
