First Biometric Intercom Was Installed in One of the Moscow Area Apartment Buildings

A biometric intercom was installed on the front doors of one of the apartment buildings in Ivanteevka. To enter the building, residents must press a finger on the scanner. The biometric controller will read the input and will let a resident in. Visitors are given the option to call the apartments.
"Center Domofonizatsii" (Intercom Installation Center) company installed the device. The company’s CEO Eugene Kolyupanov in his commentary to RUBEZH magazine said that the traditional touch-memory key technology, which was around for 14 years, is now considered outdated. The scheme has been studied and now there is equipment for key cloning. This has become a problem for service providing organizations, as well as for management companies. Keys get cloned, and advertisers keep dumping flyers into residents’ mailboxes.
Intercom installed in Ivanteevka is a really convenient innovation – there is no need for residents to carry an extra key anymore. Operation principle is the same as for any electromechanical device. While in programming mode, memory controller of the device records and stores fingerprints. When a person presses a finger on the sensor, the device recognizes it and triggers the door opening command. Biometrics data scanning takes merely a second.
The device produced by "BioSmart" operates in temperature range of -40 to +50 degrees. "Therefore, we hope that winter will cause no problems," - said Klyupanov.
The undoubted advantage is that in case someone tries to damage the device of force it open, the door will not open anyway. The main controller of the locking mechanism is located inside the building – this is a very reliable solution.
The cost of the device is about $500-600. Intercom in Ivanteevka has been working for six months already without any problems. "At the moment, I can’t provide any criticisms, we monitor status of the device every day - nothing happens, everything works normally" - said Kolyupanov.
