"Virtual NPP" Technology Will Ensure Security of Nuclear Power Plants Stations During the Planning Stage
"Virtual Nuclear Power Plant" environment developed by JSC "Atomproekt" in the 90s and significantly updated in 2010-2012 will help with security design of power plants during the planning stage.
The technology is unique in that it allows simulating a wide range of situations that may occur at the main control unit of a real NPP, enabling in-depth analysis. All nuclear power plants built under the "NPP-2006" project, including the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, are compatible with the technology, said Eugene Obraztsov, head of the research and development activities laboratory of "Atomproekt"
The technology bases on the principle of precise simulation of physics processes, which allows revealing all possible optimization routes of technical aspects during the planning stage and in the process of actual operation. The technology includes "Virtual Nuclear Power Unit" set of software, which stands as the main modelling tool of NPP systems and equipment, and can be used as an analytical simulator and a learning tool.
The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant meets all the requirements of "NPP-2006" project, which has provisions for improved water-cooled reactors of the “three plus” generation. The launch of the first generator unit is scheduled for 2018, the second will be put into operation in 2020. The total capacity of both units will be 2400 (2x1200) MW. A consolidated company JSC "Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company Atomenergoproject" – Stock Corporation "Atomstroiexport" was appointed as general design contractor.
