A Device Developed in Russia Will Protect Mobile Phones from Audio Interception

Russian company "ABC Security" developed a headset capable of telephone conversations encryption. The use of headset excludes the possibility of audio interception by hackers or police.
The device was named "Skvorets" (starling), it is reported that the development cost reached 3 million rubles. The device is currently available as a wired headset, but the manufacturer promises to release wireless Bluetooth version soon without loss of functionality.
Konstantin Salomakhin, CEO of "ABC Security" acknowledges the fact that the encryption of conversations over Bluetooth protocol can pose a problem since it is hard to find a solution that will isolate the signal from interception. Thus, the manufacturer provides a guarantee of protection against interception only for cellular signal.
It is known that the GSM standard does not provide complete protection of telephone calls since the police can freely intercept conversations during investigative operations. The new headset will scramble speech for an interceptor, but the device will not protect against interceptions by special services, which may have similar solutions of decryption, says Salomakhin.
It is expected that the pre-order for the Bluetooth version of the headset will open in October with estimated price of 15 thousand rubles.
