Cisco Innovations Center Opens in Kazan

Department of Autonomous Robotic Systems of The Higher School of Information Technology and Information Systems (ITIS) at Kazan Federal University (KFU) became the base for Cisco Innovations Center. The center is equipped with state of the art video conferencing systems and all kinds of specialized equipment. The center supports OpenLab “Robotics” initiative, thus enabling high-tech research in the field of
navigation systems development, communication systems, antenna technology, etc. Cisco Innovations Center will also serve as an educational establishment, which will prepare highly qualified IT professionals.
Various prototypes of technological innovations, created with the participation of domestic companies, and in collaboration of ITIS KFU collective and Cisco were presented during the opening
ceremony: situational video surveillance system, inertial navigation systems, smart housing and public utilities service, fractal antennas and physical models of urban environment networking.
President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov attended the event and expressed great interest in the “Smart Bus” project – a public service vehicle, equipped with video surveillance cameras, and high-speed Internet access. The vehicle is able to register traffic incidents independently and send corresponding information to the traffic police. According to Roman Shaikhutdinov, Head of the Ministry of Communications of Kazan Republic, the vehicle’s functionality is able to replace special services for commercial parking control
