Central District Court of Chisinau (Moldova) ruled against the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to use video cameras for traffic situation monitoring. The court decision came in response to a request from non-governmental organization "Lawyers for Human Rights." The court found photo and video recording of drivers to be a violation of the human right to privacy. The decision, however, is not final and may come under judicial appeal.

"Lawyers for Human Rights" organization appealed to the Interior Ministry in late October with an official letter demanding to dismantle all surveillance cameras. Members of the organization referred to the lack of necessary documents authorizing the installation of cameras. In turn, Interior Ministry officials pointed to the decision of the country leadership on establishing the automated system of road monitoring.
