Additional 50 video cameras will be added to the already existing 10 in Tyumen forests. The two years of video camera use in Tyumen forests for the prevention of fires have been proven effective, therefore it was decided to increase the number of cameras. Video surveillance has significantly lowered the cost of forest area patrolling, and increased the efficiency of fire detection.
Vladimir Artanovsky, Director of Forestry Department of the Tyumen Region, reports that new cameras should cover about 60% of the regional territory. Artanovsky hopes that the improved system with up to 30 km vision coverage will justify the cost of purchase and maintenance of cameras.
Necessary equipment for Tyumen forests video surveillance consists of 50 CCTV units, 1 server with preinstalled specialized software, 2 upgrade kits for IBM x3650 M4 server, 2 power distribution units, 1 type-1 router, 22 type-2 routers and 1 switch.
